Red Belly Piranhas can live over 20 years and grow to about 18 inches/45 cm. Thus, you will need a large aquarium with a volume of at least 50 gallons (200 L) or even larger than that.

The real pirhana has a constant thirst for flesh until it is full and then you could put your hand into a tank full of then and they would not bite you once. The old Tarzan tales used to have a lot of Pirhana shots which was a typical way of killing off the bad guys in the story. This happened on more than one occasion on the show which was a hit TV series back then. There has even been a Pirhana movie made which was a B grade thriller.

The Pirhana is found in the Amazon basin which is a big body of fresh water bound together by hundreds of entwined rivers and waterways.
