Source

Red Belly Piranhas can live over 20 years and grow to about 18 inches/45 cm. Thus, you will need a large aquarium with a volume of at least 50 gallons (200 L) or even larger than that.

This species eats a lot, so you have to ensure the water is clean and that the filtration is good. Chancing water regularly is a must if you want to have healthy Piranhas.

Source

The water has to be low in minerals, soft and its temperature should be about 75-80 degrees F/24-27 degrees C. Keep in mind to decorate the aquarium in such way that has hiding places, but also a large free swimming space. Young Red Belly Piranhas can be kept in aquarium with other species, while adults should be kept with other Piranhas of the same species.

Source

This species can be feed flake food and pellets, but as they grow older, you will have to give them meaty food. Mature fish need low fat meet such as beef, fish pieces and live feeder fish. You have to feed them several times a day, while the young ones one time a day.

Source

This species has a bad reputation for biting its owners, but this may happen only when they are underfeed and are starving. If you want to have healthy fish, these instructions are very important, so follow them and results will be great.

The pirhana is a predator type of fish, which is very well known for their permanent appetite for meat and for their unusually sharp teeth. The image of pirhanas has been used for many years in a variety of occurrences, which have made them popular even in the regions where their apparition is improbable. The rivers of the South American countries are the main homes of these fish. They can be found in the Amazon basin, in the San Francisco River, in the Paraguay-Paraná, in the rivers of the Guyana and so on. Pirhanas kept in aquariums can be seen in many more locations.

The usage of the pirhanas for the humans is a very complex one. There are many ways through which their capture can be valued in various ways. From the products that can be taken out of the fish, we can count as main elements the teeth. Due to the fact that they are very small, but have high power of resistance and strength, the teeth have been used in the construction of a variety of tools by the indigenous population, which still remain in usage or on various commercial displays today. In some of the regions in which fishermen stake out for pirhanas, these are also cooked and eaten. However, these occasions have the tendency to be rare, due to the fact that the ones that get caught bite everything around them, including nets and other tools. In the mean time, they tend to steal the bait of the fishermen, to mutilate the catch and to damage all the items that stand in their way.

One of the most interesting developments with the usage of the pirhana is the one in the industry of souvenirs. Most of the times, pirhanas are dried out and emptied for the creation of a certain decorative piece. These items, although rather weird looking, are very attractive and fascinating for tourists looking to have even the most bizarre memories of the places they have seen in their vacations. There are some areas in which people can buy a pirhana as a pet, but this is an illegal practice mostly. However, even in the regions where it is allowed, the issue of taking care of these fish is extremely difficult, due to the fact that they can become very aggressive and even cannibalistic when kept in small spaces.

Surely you have heard of the most fierce species of fish, the pirhana. The pirhana is a member if family Characidae, an omnivorous freshwater fish that inhabits in the South American rivers. In Venezuela, they are called caribes. The pirhana are known for their sharp teeth and voracious appetite for meat. There are many myths surrounding the pirhana, such as how they can dilacerate a human body or cattle in seconds. These myths refer specifically to the red-bellied pirhana.

A recurrent myth is that the pirhana is instantly attracted to blood, and they are exclusive carnivores. Rare are the occasion when the pirhana directly attack humans, unless the fish are around the fishing docks, where sea food is frequently gutted and entrails are commonly thrown into the water. Not many people know this, but the teeth of pirhana are often used to make all kinds of tools and weapons by the indigenous population. The pirhana is also popular among the South Americans as a very fine dish. The pirhana has also become a tourist souvenir, since many of the specimens have been subject to taxidermy.

The bite of the pirhana has been long considered an act of violence. Researchers have found out that the pirhana bites out of a sense of carelessness. The pirhana is a nuisance to commercial and sport fishers because they steal bait, mutilate, catch or damage the net and other fishing gear. The pirhana has also become a very fashionable pet. Many of the pirhana species appear in the aquarium trade. However, in many parts of the country, they are illegal.

The pirhana has also made on the Hollywood silver screen. There have been many horror and thriller movies that used the pirhana as the villain. Hollywood managed to emblazon the gory image of the pirhana. The first appearance of the pirhana was in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice, where a piece of meat is shown being fed to pet pirhana owned by the movie’s antagonist.

We have all heard about pirhana, but maybe not all of us actually know what are these type of fish all about. Pirhana is a fish well known to have sharp teeth and to eat meat, fish which usually lives in South American rivers. And when you have heard about pirhana, you are probably thinking about a fish that can be quite dangerous because of its characteristic of eating meat. Well, maybe you did not know, but pirhana is eatable and it actually is the choice that many people make when they want to eat something that can be described as an exotic food. And pirhana fish is actually considered to be dangerous because of the many myths that exist around it.

Some actually say that a pirhana can tear into pieces a human body in just a couple of minutes. And so getting in the water of a river in which it is well known the fact that pirhana fish is living does not seem to be a very good idea any longer. Some myths that surround pirhana says that they are attracted by blood and so when smelling it, they just attack. Well, that surely seems to make everyone feel that getting near pirhana is not such a good idea. Anyway, it seems that researchers have proved that none of these myths are actually true and that pirhana fish are not as dangerous as people may think. However, when being on a trip in a country in South America, trying to eat at least once pirhana is a great idea. If you like fish, you are surely going to like pirhana too.

When talking about pirhana, you should also find that there are a variety of species of these creatures. They are fast and they can be found in South American rivers and the Amazon, but you have to know that if you plan on buying some, you will be able to find them in sale or at different restaurants. Still, many people seem to have a negative image when it comes to pirhana, but there is nothing you have to worry about if you plan on eating them to find if you like pirhana or not. You may find that you love them!

Because they are normally only thought of as a fish that eats other creatures, most people don’t usually think about eating this type of fish. However, whether someone is visiting a new place or they are simply interested in becoming more creative in their selection of food, there often comes a time when people are curious about whether or not you can eat piranha. If this question is on your mind, the answer is that you can eat piranha. While that answer probably piques your interest, there are a few caveats that you should know.

The first is that piranha aren’t generally available in a lot of locations. The reason it can be difficult to find piranha is that they are challenging to catch. Because piranha are such an aggressive fish, catching them can be risky. However, the good thing about these fish is that unlike certain exotic fish that can be poisonous to eat, once you catch or find a source for these fish, you can prepare them in the same way as you do others.

You may be interested to know that in areas where there are large populations of piranha, they are a very popular choice to eat. This is because these fish do taste quite good. If you have an opportunity to prepare a meal that involves piranha, there are a few different ways to do it. One is to use the piranha in a soup that also includes vegetables and a variety of other spices. Because these fish have such a good flavor, it’s also possible to enjoy them on their own by grilling or frying them.

Piranhas are a tropical fish that are found in the freshwater rivers of South America. It’s from these rivers that many piranha legends have been developed, many of which include those about piranha attacks. And it’s these legends that have stemmed the misconception that piranhas are evil creatures, who will attack anything in its path.

Do Piranhas Really Attack?

Piranhas aren’t known especially for attacking people. Because they do eat meat and have exceptionally large and sharp teeth, they do prey on both larger and smaller fish and animals, but they will generally not attack humans.

This does not mean however, that a piranha will not bite a human. If a human goes into a piranha’s territory, especially if there are a large amount of piranhas grouped together, they will most likely attack humans that enter that area. Also, if a human gets too close to a piranha’s eggs, the piranha will also most likely attack, and they will be the most vicious about it then!

Attacking Each Other

It’s more common for piranhas to attack each other than it is for them to attack humans. Piranhas in a large group become extremely aggressive and are most likely to turn on each other. It’s not unusual to find several piranhas out of a group that have one eye missing, because they lost in a duel with another piranha.

If you were to go into a pet store and ask to look at the fish you would not expect to see something like a pirhana behind the glass however with all the different types of pirhana there are some very hearty breeds which live well in a tank. Although these fish look as if they are just harmless fish they do in fact have lots of very sharp teeth in their mouth which is capable of stripping a man’s flesh to the bone in a matter of minutes. The pirhana is usually found in packs of fish which catch monkeys and other animals which fall out of trees. There is nothing to big or too small for the pirhana to handle which rush in swimming very fast and taking mouth sized bites out of the flesh of anything that is still moving plus whatever floats to the bottom of the river.

Even though these fish are fast and deadly they also have to share the waters with other fish because without the other fish the eco system would fail. This is a strictly fresh water fish found in the jungle waters of South America. Even though there are several species of the pirhana only of few of these are deemed typical pirhana because they need a certain type of teeth to make the grade. The real pirhana has a constant thirst for flesh until it is full and then you could put your hand into a tank full of then and they would not bite you once. The old Tarzan tales used to have a lot of Pirhana shots which was a typical way of killing off the bad guys in the story. This happened on more than one occasion on the show which was a hit TV series back then. There has even been a Pirhana movie made which was a B grade thriller.

The Pirhana is found in the Amazon basin which is a big body of fresh water bound together by hundreds of entwined rivers and waterways. Within these waters you need to tread very carefully because the pirhana may not be near you when you get in but if it catches you there is no chance of getting out. Around ten inches long these fish can grow bigger in size and can also be used as a source of food if the local South American people have nothing better to eat. The red pirhana is attracted to the scent of blood just like a shark is and can devour a person in no time at all.
